Squeeze Box

So, old Cabby's recording studio was doing very poorly when I first met him.  He used to frequent the Pizza place that I working at.

Eventually, he offered my unpaid internship with hours that would occur after I got off from work from the Pizza place.  I worked their from 10:30pm to 2:20am on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.  My primary job as an intnern was cleaning toilets and getting stains out or off everything from couches, to amps, to walls.

Like I said, the studio wasn't doing too well.  Their weren't that many people doing recordings.  And when people are their recording they are also not there making stains.  So, instead of being bored, I started recording some of my own demos.

Eventually, I got Joe a job as an intern and we started recording our own songs.

Dreaming from the Waist

I'm not sure who is reading the drivel here at this blog.  Yesterday, my band mate did not do justice to how cool my new bass will be.

First the body will be made of a think oak that will come from recycled wine barrels.  The think oak will will attached to an aluminum shell that will give the bass it's shape.  The share is very tear-drop-like.  I think this give the sound more presence.  There will be a set of pick-up in the tradition place and a set buried deep in the belly.  You use one or both set of pick-up.  The harmonics will be amazing.  The neck will an extend mahogany neck that will hold 18 frets.  I think it will be a 5 string bass but not traditional.  The 5th string will set-up like a banjo with it anchored somewhere on the neck.  This string should be tuned to the lower E or a guitar.

This week I'm working a sound engineer to see what needs to be modified or tweaked.  Then I will work on getting an estimate to build the prototype.  Which me luck.   I'm off to visit the sound engineer that I met on craig's list.  He only accepts cash and he needs the cash up-front.

In a Hand or a Face

You write songs because you have to.  It biological.  It's kind of like passing a stool.  And in my case, it is EXACTLY like passing a stool.  My songs are loaded with excrement.

But, that's a good thing, right?  Its kind of a signature.  It is a reason to a exists (which sounds much cooler in French).

Larry is taking a few weeks off to design "a better" bass.  He then is hoping that some big name will want to sell his "Larry Is Bass" signature bass and that he will become hugely famous.  Good luck with that.

They Are All in Love

Today is the 27th.  27 is a fun number.  3x3x3.

What numbers do you think are fun?

This weekend was fun.  We drove about two hours to some house in the desert.  We played for about twenty minutes.  We got our $125 and we left.  Then we drove another 3 hours to do a DJ set as some country bar.  We did a 4 hour set.  We got our $250 and then we drove 4 hours to get home.  We are still tired.  The kids are still cranky.  We need to rethink taking them to gigs.

One Day I’ll Fly Away

I don't know why Chops wants me to write in this blog.  I keep telling him that I have nothing to say.  I am bored and tired and cranky.

I did remix some Rijjet Rogets stuff the other day.  I'm really digging some of the things that Joe worked out with me.

It looks like it be February or so before we can work on "new" Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop, so I might really concnetrate on Rijjet Rogets for a while.

Oh yeah, we ain't touring.  Joe was the person that would book gigs and such.  With him out, we ain't got no gigs.  Plus, Chop-Chop would want to bring the whole family now.  It is just not practical.  We'll get it worked out soon.

Summer Nights

I heard the final mix of Crisp Mass today.  It's not the album that Joe or wanted to make, but it is not bad.  I'm not going to be like Morrissey and tell you not to buy it.  Buy it.  When my kids can afford college later, then they will take you for it.

Mean Rock Stars wants to release it in the next couple of weeks.  Then, hopefully, they will be release Pizza.

The suits at Mean Rock Stars really want Joe and I to get back together.  I think this is there way telling me that they are not happy with Pizza.  What the heck do they know.  My rep is 20 year old kid who is intern working for college credit.  What does he know about music?

He is telling me that the suits are still interested in releasing an "Abbey Road" for the classic Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop.  Can you believe they are talking about me and my band like "new" Coke.  Jerks.

Can't You Hear Me Knocking

What is the point of brown rice?  I don't get it.

And... what is the deal with heads of lettuce.

Seriously, does anyone think that KFC is fast or food?

I better stop before I lose us anymore non-existent endorsement deals.  Chop-Chop should not leave his computer unlocked while I'm around.  I wonder if he will even notice this post.

Sister Morphine

This summer we went of a road trip all the way to Santa Monica.  That's about 90 miles from the Inland Empire.  I don't think the kids thought much of the trip.  They thought they were going to Disneyland.  Instead, we took them to some rinky-dink peer amusement park.  Cheaper than Disneyland, but no where near as exciting for a kid.

We spent sometime at the beach and then drove home wearing wet clothes.

Why am I telling you this?  Why, you ask?

A better questions is, why are you reading this?

Hopelessly Devoted To You

I am.  I am.  I said.  I am.

I am sick.  I am not Will.I.Am.  I am Chop-Chop.  And I am ill.

Damn you Mother Weather.  How dare you play with my sinuses.  How dare you torment with your pollens?

So. what are you doing today?  I hope you are have more fun than me.

Kick it,

Let It Shine

Wednesday.  Its not that great of day.

The shower of de-suffocation releases the pain and agony of the night's evil grasp.  I am sick.  The contents of my head are much larger than my scull.  I can image that the warm water slithering down my spine as being the blood running from brain like many Americans over the border after the next election.

There are cries of victory that stay in harmony with the squeals of the hot water pipes.  I have a cold.  I'm not going to work today.  I'm not going to really post anything important today to this blog.

Marley is my dog.  You can see her on the cover of Olive View and Itsy Bitsy Spider.  Marley will never go on tour us.  She is not a mascot for the band... she is just an avid listener and proponent.

This morning she knock over a guitar.  And you know what I did?

Nothing.  She's a dog, man.  It's not her fault that I left the guitar sitting precariously on the edge of the couch.

Interesting fact, "My Dog" (from ...And So 'Twas Written) was written eons before Marley became my girl. It was written by myself and Jerry (no last name because he is in law enforcement now and it would ruin his street cred) late one night after work.

Take Me Home, Country Roads

Mean Rock Stars wanted to be Methtown Records.  It was to be the label from the town of Meth as Motown was THE label from the town of Motors.  But, with no stable of awesome song writers and no names like Ross, Gaye, Robinson or Jackson, it was never going to happen.  Instead, something more magical happened.  And that magic is "Meanness".

"Meanness" is honest and honesty.  Rock Stars are mean.  They are evil.  They say it is about the art, the music, the "whatever".  But, it is not.  It is all about being mean.

Ok.  That's not fair.  It's 83.4% about being mean.  1.9% about doing good for others.  5% about art and expressionism.  .3% about activism.  9.2% about being whinny babies.

Mean Rock Stars is the 83.4%.  And they acknowledge the 9.2% (they might even friends on Facebook).

We think our label rocks.

Silent Talking

So, Choppers is working on something not terribly good today.  I hope he doesn't post it here or on youtube or facebook.

I'm not sure why we are ending our silence.  The is nothing to emerge from or to emerge to.  We are still just meandoring.

It is all kind pointless and childish.

Oh, I found a few tracks that Jon and I worked on in may.  I think I might take them to the label to see if they hear a follow-up to F135H.

What have you been up to?

Somewhere it is Sunday.  Perhaps that place is here.  But, here is not here. Nor is it there or anywhere.  I've left the future and sold the past.  I've made a path down the yellow brick road of indecision.  Precise and clean.  Wicked and unwanted.  When the last day of the first right of existence become the maiden name of my less eloquent neighbor's dog then I will finally be able to sleep.

I wish upon a glowing super nova.  So far away.  So long ago.  And only then can I forget what I have yet know.

My name is Alpha.

I am a silly panther wit silly paws.  I will sail my silly boat away from here.  Far away from here.

And you will be happy.

The Bewlay Brothers

I'm not sure how I feel about writing on the weekends.

I don't think that I like it.  I'm kind of lazy person by nature.

We went to the park today.  MC Lil' Chop and Tone Lolo rocked the swings.  You've heard Tone Lolo's crying before on tracks... but on Pizza he kind of gets his own song.  We recorded that dang album in February and it is kind of sad that we can't get it released.

There is also an unreleased Christmas song that Tone Lolo sings on.  I wonder if the suits will put that on the Crisp Mass compilation?

I'm off to nap.  That is something that I am good at.

Sitting on the Edge of the Ocean

It's Friday.

I want to tell the story about how Potato Recordings led to the creation of Mean Rock Stars.

Maybe tomorrow.  I have to figure out how to make the story not sound just like Trent Reznor's story.

Let's Hear It for the Boy

Well.  Well.  Well.

Chop-Chop is all about blogging this week.  He asked me to write about what I've been doing.

Well, very little.  Quite.  Honestly.

I've taken the sound from the "R1JJ37 R06375" sessions and recorded a new single called, "F135H".  That translates to "FLESH" if you use the translator on  Mean Rock Stars should release that as single in few days.  Let me know what you think.

I can't believe it's Wednesday already.  It's been a great week.

We've got some new video's over on youtube.  One is from my "solo" project.  The song is "Itsy Bitsy Spider".

No that I can spend more time with family, I've been inspired to work on a kids record.  The record was supposed to be credited to ()(-( instead of Cabo-Joe and Chop-Chop... but the record label said no... and they complained that I was trying to encourage people to do a cross-site scripting attack on their site.  I wasn't.

The single was release as Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop, but the single cover will not "Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop" anywhere on it.  Hopefully, a full album will be released shortly.

No Rain

So, for those of you  who didn't know, Button and I were remarried a few months ago.  I am very excited about this opportunity and about the future I should have had.

I miss Joe, however, I would welcome him back in the band at anytime.  I heard the music from his album, "So Low".  I like it.  It sounds very Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop-ish.  I don't know when it will be released.

I do know that he has also been working with another band called, The Teenage Manatee Five, and they just release a single called, "Geraldo." That song was actually written for Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop by Joe, but we never recorded it.

California Stars

Back in the eighties, there was a mechanic. His name was Cabby. He worked under-the-radar, off-of-the-books and almost out-of-sight. Basically, he would rent a place (business or apartment) and live and work out of the place until he was forced to relocated.

One of the last places that he worked at was a garage downtown. He was stripping down a car and making some modifications to it when the police came knocking. They informed him that the car had been stolen. Being that Cabby kept no books, records, and was operating an illegal business, he had no way to prove that he had not stolen the car. Cabby went away for 4 months.

During that four months of incarceration, his old lady, Rose, was having a hard time making enough money to stay afloat. Luckily, a friend of a friend of a friend introduced her the wonderful world of self-employment. This "friend" was part chef and part scientist, he taught Rose everything that she needed to know about the art of making amphetamines at home.

With money rolling in, everything started to turn around. The rent was paid. There was food in the refrigerator and in just a few weeks Cabby would be coming home and be able to sleep on a brand new bed. The future was bright.

... until Rose fell asleep because of the fumes from something she was brewing. There was a massive fire and a few minor explosions. Rose did not survive.

Cabby was released early from prison. He vowed to do things differently. Rose had always called him, Papa. So, when opened a recording studio in that burnt out garage, he wanted to call it "Papa's Recordings". A translation issue at the sign manufacture, however, occurred and "Potato Recordings" was born.

Bizzar Love Triangle

Wow. I can't believe that it has been soooo long since I last posted. There has been so much that happen between then and now.

Today, I hope that we can end the long silence. But where to start?

As you know Joe left the band in December. This was mainly having something to do with my ex-wife coming back into my life. In January, the new Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop started putting itself back together. The result was new album that we created for RPM. The album is called Pizza or Cabo Joe and Chop-Chop's Pizza. Joe is not the album per mutual decision by Joe and myself. This turn of events angered Mean Rock Stars and they decided to lock us out of our Studio. And that was that. We started on really long break.

A few months ago, we learned what they were up to. They were reviewing all of old master tapes. They plan on releasing the final album that Joe, Larry and I were working before the break-up. The album is our "Abby Road" of sorts. I understand what the label is doing, but I wish they would have asked me to be involved.

If that is not enough, I understand that they are also considering cobbling together a Christmas album. A while back, we had the idea for an called, "Crisp Mass". The album was no near completed, so Mean Rock Stars does try to release that collection, it will be interesting to hear what they found to put together.
